About the YIPI Program
YIPI runs in partnership with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Over the course of the program students will engage in positive productive activities in a safe and healthy environment.
The goal of the Youth in Policing Initiative is to inspire young people to look at the many different aspects of policing and to empower students to become ambassadors of positive change in the City of Kingston.
Students hired by the YIPI program will engage in productive activities in a safe and healthy environment. These activities include work and mentorship in various sections of the Kingston Police service, developing a working relationship with a number of youth organizations in Kingston, and supporting community initiatives, all while learning valuable life and employment skills.
The Youth in Policing Initiative runs in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Community and Social Services. The YIPI along with youthconnect.ca, is part of an effort to coordinate program information and access services, for youth across Ontario.
Team Leader core responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Directly lead and supervise YIPI Students
- Create and uphold a safe and respectful environment for all students
- Mentor students within the assigned team groups and work to help them set goals and develop themselves
To qualify for a Team Leader position, applicants must:
- Reside in the city of Kingston
- Be 16 to 19 years of age
- Be currently enrolled in secondary/post-secondary school
- Be returning to secondary/post-secondary school in September of 2025
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
