Background Check

One can apply for a background check through our online Kingston Police Information Check K-PIC tool if you meet any of the following criteria:

You are a resident of the City of Kingston, or
It is for the purpose of employment in the City of Kingston, or
It is for the purpose of volunteering in the City of Kingston, or
It is for the purpose of physically attending classes in the City of Kingston

Background checks for applicants not meeting one of the above criteria can only be completed if done so successfully through the E-ID Verifier process.

You can use our K-PIC tool 24/7, no paperwork is required and you can monitor the status of your application, any time, through your account. You can pay for your application through a secure payment system, which accepts credit card and interact transactions.

In order to process your background check completely electronically, you MUST USE our E-ID Verifier process. This will allow Kingston Police to send results to you electronically. You will then be able to share your results with Agencies that are on our Approved agency list.

Background check at police headquarters

You can apply in person for a background check at Kingston Police Headquarters at 705 Division St, during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., holidays excluded.

Processing time

Processing of police information checks may take several weeks (or longer in some exceptional cases). If you are trying to meet a deadline, we may be able to accelerate the completion of your check if you attend our station in person. However, this is dependent on many factors outside of our control and can only be determined if you attend the station in person to fill out your application. If we are able to expedite your check you could have the completed check in as little as 15 minutes after application. Note: expedited police information checks are not offered through the K-PIC system.

Fees

Applicants have the ability to pay for their application through a secure payment system which accepts credit card and Interac transactions. The cost of a Police Information Check is $40.00. Forms of payment accepted at the police station are cash, debit and credit. We only offer expedited checks to persons attending the station in person during regular business hours
