Anger over Covid-19 conditions ends in violent attack on roommate

On April 4, 2020 the accused and victim were consuming alcohol throughout the day in an east end apartment where they reside as roommates. At approximately 9:15 p.m. after a phone call with his children, the accused became angry over societal conditions due to Covid-19 and began a verbal altercation with the victim. When the victim attempted to walk away the accused attacked him from behind, throwing the victim to the ground and jumping on top.

 

The victim was struck several times in the face, but managed to escape to another apartment. The victim suffered injuries requiring medical attention and was later transported by paramedics to hospital.

 

On police arrival the accused was cooperative and arrested without incident. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

 

A 42-year-old local man was charged with aggravated assault.
