Arrest made by police after individual struck in the head with a rock and taken to hospital

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m. an assault occurred in the vicinity of Montreal Street near Rideau Street in the City of Kingston.

 

On this date the victim was standing outside when they were approached by the accused. The accused, without provocation, then proceeded to strike the victim in the head with a weapon that consisted of a large rock being swung inside a sling like piece of material. The victim fell to the ground unconscious at which time the accused struck the victim in the head with their foot.

 

The accused then left the area and Kingston Police were contacted to attend the scene. The victim, who suffered serious injuries, was subsequently transported to hospital by Frontenac Paramedics.

 

At approximately 6:30 p.m. police located and arrested the accused after he returned to the general area of the initial assault.

 

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

 

James FERGUSON, a 37-year-old individual who resides locally, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and three counts of breach of probation.
