Arrests made in arson investigation

On March 4, 2025, 37-year-old, Joel Echlin of Kingston was arrested and charged with arson disregard for human life, possession of incendiary material, disguise with intent, mischief under $5000 and two counts of breach of probation.

Echlin was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.

On March 5, 2025, 30-year-old, Kenneth Murphy of Kingston was arrested and charged with arson disregard for human life, possession of incendiary material, disguise with intent and mischief under $5000.

Murphy was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.

The Kingston Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter. Both suspects have been identified and the investigation continues.

Kingston Police request public’s assistance with arson investigation

The Kingston Police are requesting the public’s assistance identifying two suspects involved in a downtown arson endangering life.
On February 28, 2025, at approximately 8:05 a.m. two suspects approached a business located on Bagot Street between Princess Street and Brock Street where they threw an incendiary device through the front of the business.
Both suspects immediately fled the area on bicycles after the incident.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the identify of the suspects, anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident or anyone with security and/or dashcam footage of the area at the time of the incident to contact D/Cst.
