Correctional Service of Canada and Police Join Forces In Corruption Investigation.

In July 2024, investigators from the Correctional Service of Canada, Ontario Provincial Police-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, and the Kingston Police Intelligence Unit launched a joint investigation into a Correctional Officer suspected of smuggling weapons, drugs, and contraband to an inmate at Collins Bay Institution.
On August 20, 2024, the investigation culminated in the arrest of the Correctional Officer on the grounds of Collins Bay Institution. The Correctional Officer was apprehended while in possession of drugs, knives, and contraband, all packaged for distribution within the institution.
A 38-year-old Correctional Officer of Kingston is charged with mischief endangering life, breach of trust and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Additionally, a 33-year-old inmate is charged with mischief endangering life.
The Correctional Officer was released from the Kingston Police station with a scheduled court date, while the inmate remains in federal custody.
In total, 235 grams of cannabis shatter, 505 grams of cannabis, 6 grams of MDMA, 55 grams of tobacco, five steel Smith and Wesson knife blades, a cell phone charger and a small digital scale were seized as a result of this investigation.
The approximate institutional value of the items seized is $320,000.
