Cyber Incident Response Continues

The Kingston Police are continuing to navigate the cyber incident which has affected some of our IT systems and our non-emergency functions.

Most recently, we have begun restoring programs and systems. Our process continues to be gradual and intentional in restoring services to their full capacity, on a priority basis determined by leadership. Full security measures are operable before the systems go-live.

We have provided the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) with a preliminary report regarding the incident. There is required reporting after each incident as to protect privacy the IPC will review the measures undertaken by the affected organization for adequacy. We continue to work closely with the city, the Police Services Board, and our members to return to normal operations.

The report provided to the IPC is the first report in a likely series of reports we will provide to show the steps taken during the incident response. Our third-party cyber security experts are also in the process of preparing a report with recommendations for improvement beyond this incident.

Although this report is not available to the public for viewing, we want ensure community members that we are committed to transparency and accountability. Internal investigations remain active.
