Individual arrested and charged with multiple Intimate Partner Violence related offences

Release Date: October 18, 2023

23-41865

On October 16, 2023, police responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute at a residence in Kingston’s west end.

Arriving at the residence, police spoke with the victim who was fearful of her partner’s violent behaviours. The victim recounted several incidents involving intimate partner violence that had occurred in the past year. The accused was not at the residence upon police arrival.

Further investigation by police revealed that in March 2023, after a verbal dispute between them, the accused proceeded to cause extensive damage to the living room and kitchen of the home.

In June 2023, while driving in their vehicle the accused struck the victim twice in the face because she was making too much noise.

In October 2023, another verbal dispute occurred at the residence between the accused and the victim. On this date the accused refused to allow the victim to leave the house and the altercation became physical with the accused pushing the victim down on the couch when they attempted to stand up and leave the room.

On October 17, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m. police located and subsequently arrested the accused at their west end residence. The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 36-year-old local individual was charged with two counts of assault, forcible confinement, and mischief under $5000.
