Individual arrested for dangerous driving and drug possession after leaving the scene of collision

Release Date: February 8, 2024

24-4260

On February 7, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m. a collision, which involved three motor vehicles, occurred in downtown Kingston. The accused, who had struck the two other vehicles with their motor vehicle, proceeded to flee from the scene of the collision and no injuries were incurred.

Members of the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit, who were conducting investigations on unrelated matters, observed the vehicle travelling at high rates of speed while weaving in and out of traffic erratically and were able to surveil and follow the subject vehicle undetected.

Officers observed the vehicle driving in a dangerous manner before finally coming to a stop in front of a business on Railway Street, in an apparent effort to elude uniform officers. Street Crime members were then able to safely effect the arrest of the accused. Upon arrest the accused was also found to be in possession of a bag of psilocybin mushrooms.

The accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 26-year-old local individual was charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance and unlawfully possessing a Schedule 3 substance. This individual was also charged provincially with failing to provide their name after leaving the scene of an accident.
