Release Date: March 27, 2024

24-9725

On March 26, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m. a concerned citizen contacted police to advise that they had observed a motor vehicle driving on lawns and almost striking a building on Stuart Street in downtown Kingston. It was further reported that this vehicle was driving on a flat tire.

A second concerned citizen advised police that they had nearly been hit by this same vehicle, which had been driving on a flat tire on the wrong side of the roadway while advancing toward oncoming vehicular traffic on Albert Street near Princess Street.

Police quickly attempted to intercept this vehicle and subsequently located it stopped in the middle of the roadway in the 400 block of Albert Street. Police observed that the lone occupant of the vehicle was sitting in the driver’s seat. There was also a jack under the car on the side of the flat tire and the accused appeared to be getting ready to change it.

The officer made observations that the accused was impaired by alcohol. The accused was arrested and subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have nearly two times the legal limit of alcohol in their system.

Ethan THOMPSON, a 23-year-old individual from Mallorytown, was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and impaired operation of a conveyance while exceeding blood alcohol concentration.

The accused was later released with a future court date. Their driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one-year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for 7 days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.
