Kingston Police Community Volunteers Pumpkin Patrol

The annual Pumpkin Patrol hit the streets on Halloween night for the 28th year.

Chris Phelan, Coordinator, of the Kingston Police Community Volunteers (KPCV), says that Thursday afternoon approximately 16 volunteers will be out to patrol the streets.

We go out in marked vehicles, flashing lights, and we patrol around in the neighbourhoods where there are a high number of children in the area, Phelan said. "We patrol and talk to the kids; the younger ones love that.” We also act as a deterrent for people who are out to cause problems such as vandalism.

Of course, Kingston Police Force are out in full strength too. Phelan said KPCV is just another set of eyes and ears in the community during All Hallows' Eve.

"We're non-confrontational so if something happens, we radio it into the Kingston Police, who send officers to deal with it, unless it is something minor," Phelan said. "We're just civilians, technically."

So, if you see our folks around your neighbourhood be sure to give them a wave and say hi, or Booooooooooo!
