Kingston Police investigate assault with a weapon at a local shelter.

Charges upgraded in assault with a weapon incident.

On January 14, 2025, the accused in this incident, Ryan Tonello, was re-arrested by members of the Kingston Police Criminal Investigations Division for the charges of Attempted Murder, Assault with a Weapon and Wear a Disguise.

Tonello attended a bail hearing in relation to the new charge and remains in custody.

The Kingston Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter. The suspect, Ryan Tonello was located and taken into custody by the Kingston Police without incident.

 

On January 6, 2025, at approximately 8:50 a.m. members of the Kingston Police Patrol Division responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a local shelter located on Cowdy Street.

The victim was treated at scene for non-life-threatening injuries caused by an assault with a knife.

As a result of a subsequent investigation, 42-year-old Ryan Tonello of Orillia, Ontario is currently wanted by Kingston Police for assault with a weapon and possession of weapons dangerous. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Tonello is described as a 42-year-old Caucasian male, with reddish blonde hair and a scruffy beard. He was last seen wearing a grey hooded sweater, a dark motorcycle jacket and light-colored ripped jeans. 

Tonello is considered to be in possession of weapons dangerous to the public and has demonstrated that he is a threat to public safety. Caution needs to be exercised by anyone encountering him. If seen, do not approach, and contact 911 immediately.
