Occurrence #24-34111
A 46-year-old local male is facing multiple charges after an initial criminal investigation by Kingston Police led to a standoff that ultimately resulted in his safe arrest.
On September 25, 2024, officers from Uniform Patrol were assigned to a matter of an employee at a local Kingston company becoming threating and harassing in nature to the owner of the business and their family, causing concern for the safety of all involved. Grounds were formed to arrest and charge the employee, who was located at a residence on Rosemund Place. When patrol officers made contact with the accused at approximately 1:00 p.m. he became aggressive, resistant, and barricaded himself alone inside the residence, where he was in possession of, and displaying, a machete.
Kingston Police initiated Incident Command and contained the area to ensure the safety of all involved, which included negotiators and members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU). After multiple hours of attempted negotiations where the accused refused to cooperate, ERU members gained entry to the residence where they safely and successfully arrested the man shortly after 9:00 p.m. As a precaution due to exposure to aerosol spray, and under police escort, he was transported to hospital via paramedics, where he will then be brought to police headquarters to await a bail hearing the following day.
The accused is facing charges of Criminal Harassment, Mischief as a result of damaging police equipment, and one count each of Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm and to Cause Death to separate tactical officers.
