Multiple firearms and drug arrests by Kingston Police Street Crime Unit

Occurrences #24-21063, #24-21535

Local residents, plus one individual from the Greater Toronto Area, were arrested as part of two separate investigations by the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit and their ongoing dedication to fighting deadly drugs and firearms-related violence within the City of Kingston and neighbouring communities.

Commencing in June 2024 members of the Street Crime Unit initiated an illegal firearms investigation into a male party residing in the area of Wilson Street and Weller Avenue. Information gathered by officers culminated in the execution of a search warrant on June 25, 2024. Upon a search of the residence two Remington shotguns were located with 46 rounds of associated ammunition.

As a result of the investigation a 62-year-old local male was charged with eight counts of firearms related charges under the Criminal Code of Canada including: possession of a firearm without holding a licence x 2, carless storage of firearms/ammunition x 3, possession of a dangerous weapon, alter serial number on firearm, and unlicensed person in possession of a restricted firearm. As a result of the accused’s extensive criminal record and the seriousness of the charges he was held for a bail hearing.

In a separate investigation conducted on June 28, 2024, members of the Street Crime Unit, while on patrol in the area of Leroy Grant Dr and Concession St, investigated two male parties known to police. Upon approach, officers were aware of court-imposed conditions of one of the parties and he was immediately arrested for breaching his current judicial release.

The second male immediately fled on foot and was apprehended without incident a short distance away. Upon a search of the immediate vicinity by the Canine Unit and PSD (Police Service Dog) Dak, a Glock pistol with a loaded 17-round magazine was recovered as well as other drugs, Canadian currency, and associated drug paraphernalia.

A 24-year-old Pickering resident was charged with nine firearm-related Criminal Code charges including possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm while on weapons prohibition, carless storage of a firearm and possession of proceeds of crime (Canadian currency). A 38-year-old Kingston resident was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking a scheduled drug (cocaine), possession of proceeds of crime, and two counts of failing to comply with judicial release orders. Both parties were held for bail hearings.

Members of the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit remain diligent in the investigation and seizure of firearms within our community. Statistics Canada reports an increase in firearm-related violence in Canada on a steady basis year-over-year. Street Crime will continue to relentlessly strive to rid the streets of Kingston of the individuals that possess and utilize these dangerous firearms for their own protection and intimidation.
