Police arrest and charge an individual following a violent incident of Intimate Partner Violence
24-21032
On June 25, 2024, just after midnight, a violent incident occurred at a residence on Compton Street in Kingston’s north end.
The accused had visited the victim’s residence to celebrate a birthday when a verbal argument occurred between the two of them. The victim and the accused had previously been in a relationship, however, had separated months prior to this incident.
The argument escalated and the accused proceeded to grab the victim by the throat with both hands and while choking the victim threw them against a wall. The accused then took a knife and held it to the victim’s throat. The violence continued with the accused throwing glasses and plates at the victim before destroying their phone.
The victim attempted to flee from the residence, however, was unable to and requested that their child, who was also in the household at the time of the incident, contact the police. Prior to police arrival the accused left the scene. Police learned that the accused was on numerous release conditions, stemming from previous occurrences related to the victim.
At approximately 9:00 a.m. police located and arrested the accused at a north end address. The accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
A 44-year-old local individual was charged with assault with a weapon, assault by choking, assault, possession of a weapon for committing an offence, mischief under $5000, four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and four counts of breaching probation.
