Police arrest individual after disturbance on transit bus
The Kingston Police have arrested an individual after they caused a disturbance on a transit bus which forced passengers off the bus.
On January 18, 2024 at approximately 1:15 p.m. an individual boarded a transit bus in the city’s west end. Once on the bus the individual demanded that the bus immediately depart. When the driver refused to depart, the individual began to bang on the glass partition which separates the driver from the passengers. The individual eventually made their way to the back of the bus and the bus departed.
Once the bus began operating on its scheduled route the individual began hanging off the bus rails and banging on the windows. This caused several passengers on board to vacate their seats and make their way to the front of the bus.
Due to the individuals continued behaviour, the driver was forced to stop the bus at the intersection of Bath Road and Palace Road and contact police. Once stopped, the driver, along with all the passengers vacated the bus, leaving the individual on board.
The individual also assaulted one of the passengers attempting to vacate the bus by striking them in the face with a closed fist. The passenger did not sustain any injuries as a result of the assault.
Members of the Kingston Police Patrol Division attended and placed the individual under arrest. The individual was then transported to Kingston Police Headquarters where during the prisoner booking process the individual bit an officer on the forearm.
The 39 year old Kingston individual was charged with Assault, Assault Peace Officer, Causing a Disturbance and Fail to Comply with Release Order. The individual was subsequently held for a bail hearing.
