Police arrest individual for brandishing a knife in a threatening manner during an argument

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 9:05 a.m., a verbal dispute commenced between two parties in the area of Montreal Street near Rideau Street in the City of Kingston.

 

During the argument, which occurred on the sidewalk adjacent to Montreal Street, one of the parties, the accused, presented a large knife from their waistband and pointed it at the other party, the victim, in a threatening manner.

 

Bystanders were able to separate the two individuals and the accused then fled the scene running east on Rideau Street. Police were notified and quickly attended the scene, however, a search for the accused produced negative results. The victim was not injured during the incident.

 

At approximately 3:55 p.m., police located and arrested the accused at the intersection of Rideau Street and Montreal Street.

 

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

 

A 49-year-old local individual was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.
