Police arrest individual for dangerous driving and trying to leave the scene of a collision

24-22647

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m. a motor vehicle collision occurred on Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard north of the intersection of Norman Rogers Drive in midtown Kingston.

The victim and their young family were driving northbound on Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard when the accused attempted to pass them on the left side by driving in the centre grass median.

As the accused approached an oncoming utility pole in the centre median they swerved back into the live lane of northbound traffic and struck the victim’s vehicle. The accused then lost control of their motor vehicle and cut across two lanes of live traffic, eventually colliding with a tree in an open grass area on the east side of the roadway.

The accused did not stop to offer assistance to the victim or their family and instead attempted to drive away. This attempted departure, however, was thwarted due to the fact that the vehicle’s front driver’s side wheel had fallen off, rendering the automobile immovable.

Police attended the scene and, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the accused was arrested and subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were later released on conditions with a future court date.

A 49-year-old local individual was charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance and leaving the scene of an accident while failing to offer assistance.
