Police arrest individual responsible for multiple acts of mischief to vehicles and break and enters

Release Date: April 11, 2024

24-11372

Over the past four months multiple apartment buildings have been broken into throughout Kingston. During each of these incidents, items were stolen, and property was vandalized.

On April 9, 2024, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the accused attended and entered a secure apartment building located on Old Mill Road in the City of Kingston. Once inside, the accused used a tool to break the windows out of 56 vehicles in the underground garage. The accused rummaged through each vehicle seeking items to steal. The accused was captured on security video at this location during the commission of the offence. Police circulated this information and the related images of the accused, who was wearing notable articles of clothing during the incident, to other officers in attempts at having them identified.

Later that same day, at approximately 3:45 p.m., members of the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit observed an individual riding a bicycle in the parking lot of an apartment building located on Leroy Grant Drive. The individual who was observed had an outstanding warrant for their arrest and they were subsequently taken into custody. Searching this individual’s belongings, incident to arrest, revealed to the keen-eyed officers that the arrested party was also in possession of an article of clothing, which matched one that was worn by the suspect responsible for the Old Mill Road incidents earlier that day.

The accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing. While in police custody, and through further investigation, detectives learned that the accused was responsible for a wide array of break and enters, thefts, and acts of mischief at other apartment buildings throughout the city.

Charles REYNOLDS, a 44-year-old local individual, was charged with three counts of break and enter with intent, possession of a break-in instrument, mischief over $5000, and two counts of mischief under $5000.
