On August 16, 2024, at approximately 8:45 a.m. two members of the Kingston Police Patrol Division were conducting proactive patrol in the city’s north end, when they observed a vehicle which had recently been reported stolen travelling west bound on First Canada Ave.

The vehicle, which was stolen in Belleville on August 12, 2024, continued to drive into a parking lot despite officers activating their roof lights and sirens. Officers were able to maneuver their cruiser to block the vehicle from travelling any further.

The 38-year-old driver from Belleville was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5000. The accused was transported to Kingston Police headquarters and later released with a future court date.

Later that day, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the same two Kingston Police patrol members were conducting proactive patrol in the Kingscourt neighbourhood when they observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Third Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was also observed to be missing a front license plate.

The officers were able to stop the vehicle on Bath Road near Sir John A. MacDonald Boulevard. A subsequent investigation revealed the license plate on the rear of the vehicle was registered to a different vehicle.

Upon speaking with the driver of the motor vehicle, the officers discovered the driver was a suspended driver. Additionally, officers observed an open beer can within the vehicle. Further investigation by the officer’s lead to the discovery of illegal drugs and paraphernalia located within the vehicle.

The 65-year-old driver from Kingston was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a schedule I substance and possession of proceeds of crime. Additionally, the driver was charged with driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

In total the officers seized approximately 55 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 2 grams of cocaine, a weigh scale, packaging materials and a quantity of Canadian currency.
