Search warrant leads to three arrests

25-3307

Beginning in December 2024, members of the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit commenced an investigation into fentanyl and cocaine trafficking occurring in an apartment complex in the Dalton Avenue and Division Street area.

A Controlled Drugs and Substances search warrant was obtained, and executed in the early morning hours of January 29, 2025, with assistance from the Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit. A thorough search of the apartment uncovered quantities of cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, Canadian currency, Cooey shotgun and drug-related paraphernalia, resulting in the arrests of three individuals.

An 18-year-old greater Toronto area resident was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of Crime. The male was currently on charges for Assault with a Weapon with O.P.P. Huronia West.

A 20-year-old male with no ties to the City of Kingston was also charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of Crime.

A 54-year-old Kingston resident was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl. They are currently on court ordered release in relation to four previous charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two charges of possession of proceeds of crime.

All three individuals were transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they were held pending a bail hearing. The maximum penalty for an individual found guilty of possession of a scheduled I or II substance for the purpose of trafficking is imprisonment for life.

This drug seizure highlights the ongoing influx of fentanyl and other dangerous substances into the city, along with the serious impact they have on the community. The location of this drug operation within a densely populated high-rise apartment building raised significant concerns for special services members.

Kingston Police remain committed to serving and protecting residents and urge the public to report any information regarding drugs or weapons. Tips can be submitted through the online reporting portal when applicable. For further inquiries, please contact Detective Sergeant Shawn Birney at 613-549-4660 (Ext. 6323).
