Suspect sought in random hammer attack

Occurrence #24-20798

Kingston Police detectives are investigating a matter where a male randomly assaulted a woman with a hammer in the Kingscourt area.

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a 49-year-old woman who was visiting Kingston was walking with a friend near the area of Kingston Secondary School closest to Kirkpatrick St and Kingscourt Ave. They began walking north along the park trail adjacent to the school, towards Elliott Ave when a male approached them. The man was acting erratically and talking to the women in an incoherent manner.

When the two women attempted to turn and walk away the male brandished a hammer and struck the victim from behind on the base of her neck, causing minor injury. The suspect then fled north towards Elliott Ave.

The male was described as being Caucasian, estimated to be in his late 20s, 5’10” in height, thinner build of approximately 180 pounds, brown hair, and a scruffy beard. He was wearing a dark blue t-shirt with white lettering on the chest, light grey pants, white shoes, and carrying a backpack. Nearby video surveillance was obtained by detectives capturing what is believed to be the male suspect.

Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying this male or knowing any frequented locations he may attend. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Bryan McMillan via email at bmcmillan@kingstonpolice.ca or by calling 613-549-4660 ext. 6343.
