24-30445/24-32925

On September 1, 2024, at approximately 4:35 a.m. members of the Kingston Police Patrol Division were conducting proactive patrol in the City’s north end when they observed a Kingston Transit access bus parked in a convenience store parking lot.

Officers noted the bus was parked in a crooked position across multiple parking spots. At the same time an individual inside the bus was unsuccessfully attempting to start it. The individual advised officers they had been working on the access bus and was taking it for a ride to ensure it was working properly. The individual could not provide the name of their employer or how they had acquired the vehicle.

Through the course of investigation officers were able to determine that the individual had stolen the bus at approximately 3:00 a.m. from a local automotive center where it was being serviced.

After the bus was returned to the city police were notified it would now require professional cleaning services before being put into service as it was littered with drug paraphernalia.

A 22-year-old individual originally from Toronto, now residing in Kingston was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle and obstruct peace officer. The individual was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing.

The individual who was initially remanded into custody was granted bail at a later court date.

On September 16, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m. police responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at an apartment unit in the area of Princess Street and Bagot Street.

The caller advised officers that they were at home in their apartment when they heard rustling in their living room. Upon investigating the noise, the caller observed a figure leaving through an open window. The caller noticed their purse was missing which contained numerous items including an iPhone.

The caller advised attending officers their iPhone was displaying a location in the area of Bagot Street and Barrack Street.

Officers attended an apartment building complex on Bagot Street where they located an individual in a stairwell with the caller’s property.

The individual, who is the same individual who had previously stolen a Kingston access bus earlier in the month, was arrested and charged with break and enter, prowl at night, theft under $5000, obstruct peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. The individual was transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing.
