On April 17, 2024, at approximately 12:05 a.m. police were on general patrol in the area of Division Street and Princess Street in downtown Kingston. While proceeding southbound on Division Street through the intersection police observed a silver van travelling westbound on Princess Street toward them at a very high rate of speed. This vehicle was travelling in the wrong direction on Princess Street, which is a one-way street east of Division Street.

In a recent scam, cybercriminals are spreading malware by using a fake security app. They send you a text message that says a large financial transaction has just occurred using your bank account. It instructs you to call a phone number if you have not authorized the transaction. Of course, the transaction never occurred, and the cybercriminals are trying to scare you into acting impulsively.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., frontline officers from the General Patrol Division were in the area of Bayswater Place south of Bath Road when they observed a lone individual exiting from a wooded area to the west. This individual was carrying a bag and upon seeing the officers they immediately dropped the bag and began to run toward Bath Road.

In a recent phishing email scam, cybercriminals use vague financial terms that attempt to make you curious enough to click the attachment in the email. The subject of the email is “Remittance Summary,” and the malicious attachment is named “Payment Advice.” The body of the email only says, “Find attached payment advice for remittance.. Kindly revert.” The sender of the email appears to be legitimate, but it is actually sent from a fake sender address. If you download the PDF file, the malware will begin installing on your computer.

Over the past four months multiple apartment buildings have been broken into throughout Kingston. During each of these incidents, items were stolen, and property was vandalized.

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 2:45 a.m., police responded to a call regarding a weapons offence that had just occurred at a residence on Crossfield Avenue in Kingston’s west end.

An individual formerly employed by a local agency that offers 24-hour care for severely disabled individuals has been charged by Kingston Police for defrauding the six clients in her care.
