Community Officer

"The police are the public and the public are the police."

The Community Programs Officer (CPO) is part first-responder, part strategist, part social worker, and part community educator.

The CPO partners and coordinates with outside agencies to pool resources and proactively design supports to prevent and address crimes committed by persons who are in need, with the goal of improving their lives and subsequently reducing crime.

The CPO is also responsible for running several community programs, including:

The CPO also organizes, supports, and participates in community events such as: 

  • Shop With a Cop
  • Chief for a Day
  • The Summer Fun Fair
  • Coffee with a cop and others
  • Winter carnival
  • Spring fair (Kingston Community Health Centre)
  • Summer camps through Tim Horton’s and the Salvation Army
  • YIPI events
  • The Fire Truck Pull for epilepsy
  • Boys and girls club events such as the Teddy Bear Picnic

Do you have what it takes?

Successful applicants will be experienced officers that have a demonstrated passion for building positive connections within the community. The officer should be able to organize and participate in a wide variety of community programs and events from small to large.

The CPO officer also needs to have a particular interest to go beyond enforcement and utilize or develop other methods to resolve crimes that often emanate from certain societal issues.
