To assist with the control of the COVID-19 pandemic and recently declared outbreak in the University District, Kingston Police is supportive of the City of Kingston’s decision to expand the emergency order to close Breakwater Park.

Both police and bylaw enforcement officers attended the park at multiple times on April 8. While it may have appeared from a distance as one large crowd of hundreds of people, upon closer examination it was discovered by officers that people were predominantly within groups of five people or less, and only one liquor violation was observed and enforced.

An 18-year-old Kingston woman is under arrest and facing charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon following a confrontation that resulted in a 17-year-old male being transported to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. Kingston Police as well as Frontenac Paramedics were dispatched to an apartment complex located on Van Order Dr where the male was located with serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his torso and elsewhere.

Thousands of children go missing in Canada every year, but fewer than one per cent of those cases are broadcast to the public through AMBER Alerts. While police remain on the front line in the searches for missing children, responding on average to over 40,000 reports annually across Canada, members of the public increasingly play an important role in helping bring children to safety.

On January 13, 2021 at approximately 8:45 a.m. a male suspect was captured on video which was mounted to a vehicle in a parking lot on Brock Street in downtown Kingston. On the video the suspect was observed looking around the parking lot while standing next to a motor vehicle. He had a large axe in his hands which he then proceeded to use to smash out the passenger side front window of the vehicle. He leaned forward and looked inside the broken window of the vehicle before leaving the scene.

COVID-19 rates remain low in KFL&A, and all members of the community must stay vigilant in the collective fight against this disease. The community’s ability to contain disease spread depends on our commitment to following public health’s requirements and guidance.

Kingston Police and Youth Diversion have been working together since the onset of COVID-19 to address a significant gap impacting youth in our community.  As many social service agencies adapt to temporary service delivery models due to the impact of COVID-19, young people are falling through the cracks leaving police as the last line of support.

Kingston Police wishes to clarify that while it is aware of the planned ‘Justice for George Floyd & All Police Racism Victims’ event on June 6 at Confederation Park it will not be formally involved, will not be an active participant, nor will any members be speaking at the demonstration. This was never the intent of Kingston Police and there was some apparent miscommunication by one of the event organizers when a liaison officer reached out earlier in the week to discuss public safety and COVID-19 concerns. The organization is also aware of the possibility of a second protest that may occur near City Hall at the same time.

The Kingston Police and Special Olympics Ontario have put together an opportunity for student-athletes, ages 13-21 to stay active, stay connected and virtually compete. Today kicks off the first ever, Special Olympics Ontario 2020 Virtual School Championships. This virtual event is a safe way for Special Olympics student-athletes and unified partners to keep the spirit of Special Olympics alive by competing safely from their homes.

One man was charged with a fresh domestic assault while his partner, the victim in the recent matter, was additionally charged for breaching a peace bond relating to an historic incident.
