Arrest made after individual assaults partner by choking and threatens death

On April 23, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m. an incident involving Intimate Partner Violence occurred at a residence on Sunnyside Road in the City of Kingston.
The accused and the victim were at the victim’s residence when a verbal argument ensued between both parties. During this argument the accused entered the kitchen and began to throw items from the refrigerator. The victim requested that the accused stop throwing the food items from the refrigerator at which time the accused approached in an aggressive manner and assaulted the victim. The accused then proceeded to hold the victim down, while choking them, and uttered a death threat.
A short time later the accused once again assaulted the victim in a similar manner in a separate room of the residence. The following morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. the victim called the police for assistance. The accused observed this and once again assaulted the victim by choking them.
Police quickly attended the residence and at approximately 8:05 a.m. the accused was located and arrested.
The accused was subsequently transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
A 28-year-old local individual was charged with assault, assault by choking, and uttering threats to cause death.
