Individual arrested and charged for prowling at night in north end neighbourhood

Release Date: April 18, 2024

24-12534

On April 17, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Kingston Police were patrolling the area of Abbey Glen Drive and Weller Avenue, a residential neighbourhood in Kingston’s north end.

Officers were proactively patrolling this neighbourhood when they observed an individual in dark clothing and wearing a backpack standing in the yard of a private residential property close to the side of a house. The individual was acting suspiciously and looking from to side and when they saw the headlights of the police cruiser coming toward them, they promptly began walking away from the residence and off of the private property.

Police stopped and spoke with the individual and ascertained that they had no reasonable explanation regarding why they had been loitering on a property which did not belong to them.

At approximately 10:25 p.m. police arrested the accused for prowling at night on another person’s property. Further investigation revealed that the accused was also breaching multiple conditions of a release order. Officers further confirmed with the homeowner that the accused had no reason to be on their private residential property, let alone late in the evening.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 53-year-old local individual was charged with prowl at night on another person’s property and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
