Emergency Response Unit

“When the danger is next level, this team is next level.”

Formed in 1981, the Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit consisted of part-time members for approximately 20 years until the unit progressed to a full-time status within the Kingston Police.

The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is a highly trained team that is ready to respond 24/7 365 to the highest risk calls using the latest tools, technology, and training available today.

ERU works alongside Patrol, during the peak hours and days of the week. ERU handles the highest risk calls, including incidents involving weapons and violence, barricaded persons, hostage takings, drugs, high risk vehicle stops, K9 backup, and search and rescue operations. They are also responsible for executing warrants for the Drug Unit and the Criminal Investigations Unit.

Do you have what it takes?

Officers applying to ERU must be have a team first mentality, be highly disciplined, and maintain extreme levels of fitness. Successful applicants do not need to come with advanced weapons training or military experience. It is far more important that a candidate be motivated and willing to learn.
